At The Intersection of Law and Commerce®
My passion is drafting documents and helping clients resolve disputes arising out of documents (or the lack of them). I believe the distinction between litigation and transactional work is often artificial. Business, contract, intellectual property, employment, and real estate litigation are almost always the result of poor drafting, insufficient investigation, or an incomplete negotiation. I prefer plain English over "Legalese." Plain English lowers costs, improves productivity, increases credibility, and reduces misunderstandings. I can improve any document - email your document to email@example.com for comments and a FREE ESTIMATE. You may also view a standard contract and a plain English version of the same contract HERE. You may read my satircal article, How to Draft a Bad Contract, HERE.
I am also a proven TRIAL LAWYER. In 2012, I won a $4.2 million judgment (including punitive damages) for a client in a case involving breach of contract and interference with contract. My experience enables me to facilitate transactions today that are least likely to become lawsuits tomorrow. If trial is the only way to resolve a dispute, you will be glad I represent you. I earned my B.A. in economics in 1980 at Whitman College. I earned my law degree in 1983 at the University of Colorado School of Law in Boulder. I earned a Masters in Law (LL.M.) in agricultural and food law at the University of Arkansas School of Law in 2014. I also studied philosophy and logic in graduate school and I am a member of the Institute of General Semantics. My AVVO rating is presently a perfect 10 out of 10.

My Practice Areas (you may click on these links to learn more)
These areas are not distinct; they often overlap, and contract law permeates many of them. Contract litigation is common in all these areas of the law. My expertise in these areas serves my clients well. My ability to draft clear documents, my experience litigating contract disputes and other disputes arising out of legal documents, and my understanding of the relationship between the two, are great assets as I advise clients in these areas of law.
